Bo'ness War Memorial, Stewart Avenue, Bo'ness - Sunday 12 November 2006

While our political masters continue to argue for 'peace and an end to violence', local residents of Bo'ness gathered to remember the fallen of two world wars and more recent and continuing conflicts.

Individuals and members of local organisations gathered, after a Service of Remembrance at the Old Kirk in Panbrae Road, to remember and pay their respects to the fallen.

Bo'ness Pipe Band led the march from the Old Kirk to the War Memorial with Kinneil and Unison Band supporting and providing the music for the brief service held at the memorial.

The police, Falkirk Council, Bo'ness Community Council, local army cadets, youth groups and the local 'Beavers' group all laid wreaths in commemoration.

In Flanders Fields

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918), Canadian Army
