Coffin Block up for refurbishment - at last!

Falkirk Council lodge planning application for make-over

Falkirk Council have lodged a planning application to renovate the 1930's Matthew Steele designed flats in Corbiehall, known locally as the Coffin Block, which have lain empty since being cleared as part of the foreshore development plan.

Due to the economic climate and recession the original plans looked unlikely to proceed and Falkirk Council, who retained ownership, took action to bring forward the refurbishment.

Economic Housing

It's good news on two fronts in that these important buildings on the edge of the town centre are to be brought back into use and additional council housing made available for local people

Planning Application

As reported in the Bo'ness Journal, Friday 23 July, both Labour and SNP planning committee members were being non-committal not wishing to pre-judge the outcome.

It would be a sad day, and questions asked, if a council proposal to bring back into use these iconic buildings for affordable local housing were to be knocked-back.
